Man, I had just learned to love Luna Park, too.

Amusing the Zillion has good up-to-the-minute coverage of the heartbreak happening on the Coney Island boardwalk right now; a dozen of the classic boardwalk businesses, from Ruby's to Shoot the Freak, received their walking papers with two weeks to pack up and get out. Unless they can band together to successfully fight this off legally, which, if the ongoing history of Coney development is any indication, won't happen, next summer the old flavor of the Coney Island boardwalk will essentially be a thing of the past.

Also, the new Luna Park is totally cool

Dragged my hungover ass out of bed this morning to Coney Island...huh, first time I've been there in the daylight all summer! Anyway, for Save Coney Island's walking tour of Coney's remaining historic buildings along Surf Avenue. The organization is still fighting the good fight to save these buildings (including the theater where the Marx Brothers first performed together and the oldest, Victorian-era building still in the amusement district) in the face of Thor Equity's continuing demolition and high-rise development plans. Join their mailing list and come out for the next tour, it was fascinating and the grassroots groups like SCI and Develop Don't Destroy Brooklyn trying to preserve the fabric of the city may not succeed in all of their missions, but they can't accomplish anything without our support.

Nice to share a glass of (sweaty naked girl) wine with them

Just wanted to share a really great writeup of Thursday's show on Freddy in Space! I have to once again thank all of the bloggers who helped us get the word out about this show, and had so much to do with the huge, enthusiastic crowd that came out for it. We'll see you at Joe's Pub on September 11th for Man in Black Burlesque!

Good. bad. I'm the guy with the gun.

Incredibly fun show, for a packed-to-the-rafters crowd of crazy Bruce fans, all ended with the best naked wine bath ever, hugely awesome night. And for those of you who couldn't be there, no more teasing, here's the email Bruce Campbell sent me to read at the top of the show:

Good evening ladies, gentlemen, and everything in-between. I pity you for what you are about to see.

I can't imagine why anyone would put so much time and effort into celebrating my so-called career, much less paying to see it - but hey, you're here, we got your money and you're never getting it back!

Sorry I can't be part of this freak show in person. Sadly, I'm not dead yet, so I still have to earn a living. I'll be thinking of you all, sitting in this air-cooled theater, while I sweat my ass off on the Burn Notice set in Miami.

And finally, if ya ain't got socks, you ain't got much, but if you got 'em, ya might as well pull 'em up!

Regards,

Bruce

Shop smart. Shop S-Mart.

Our sponsor for Gimme Some Sugar, Baby: Bruce Campbell Burlesque is Grindhouse Releasing, who are behind a great new print of Evil Dead that's been making the rounds of the country--when I saw the midnight screening of it at Sunshine Cinema here in NYC (where my partners Clams Casino and Anita Cookie host a flick every month) a lightbulb went off, and they've been enthusiastic supporters, which is great. Since then, our show has been embraced by horror and cult movie bloggers across the interwebs, which is very gratifying! Here are some fun interviews with me, at Z For Zombies, and Clams, at Blood Sprayer, about the show and a whole lot more.

But, I have to say...there's one I'm geeking out on. It's, seriously...I'm geeking. Here's our show. On. Bruce. Campbell's. Website!

Sweet.

Come get some.

I may be more excited about this show than any other that we've produced. I know that's bold statement. But on August 5th, Casino O'Fortune Cookie Productions makes its Coney Island USA debut, part of the historic 15th year of Burlesque at the Beach:

I cannot. frickin'. wait. Lot's more to come.

And that's really it, this time.

Saw the headline on the way into work today; finally, after all the back and forth and the one-year reprieve, Thor Equities is not renewing Astroland's lease at Coney Island, and this Sunday will be its last day in existence. If you haven't made it out there this summer, get out there; because no matter what Coney Island becomes, it will never be the same.

All the burlesque that's fit to print

A shot of the whole cast backstage before AM GOLD on Thursday night, a great show, an amazing cast, a fabulous night at the beach! (That's me, Kenny Law, GiGi LaFemme, Anita Cookie, Creamy Stevens, Clams, Darlinda Just Darlinda and Runaround Sue)

Speaking of Darlinda Just Darlinda, Clams was part of the stellar cast for her show on Saturday at the Zipper Factory; the finale to her Year in Rainbow, a year-long art project/blog/performance in which she wore a different color of the rainbow exclusively every month. It was really an amazing show.

And next up: come out and join us tomorrow night, when Clams and I are in charge of Monday Night Burlesque while Doc Wasabassco, the producer, is out of town! I'm starting off the night at 9:00, hosting the Fresh Face Showcase. Summer's almost over, we have a great lineup, come on out!

I'm alright, don't nobody worry about me

I know I already told you all to come out to Coney for AM GOLD tonight, but have you been outside? It's a perfect late summer day. And there's a soft rock bonus: Huey Lewis is playing a free show next to the aquarium. How can you stay home?

Takin' it to the streets

I love this shot of Clams, I think it looks like an ad in an issue of of Playboy from 1974. Anyway, it should definitely get you in the mood for what will be, without a doubt, the smoothest burlesque show ever. You have GOT to join us in Coney Island tomorrow night for AM GOLD! We'll see you there!

What a fool believes

Is that it would be easy to find a good karaoke track of "This Is It" by Kenny Loggins and Michael McDonald. Isn't this why the internet was invented? Why do we need that, do you ask? Come to Coney Island on August 21st and find out.

The summer of shows continues

We took the Jersey shore by storm again this Saturday at Asbury Lanes, and now it's time to gear up for more great shows coming up this summer. Of course, this Thursday is the next installment of Gameshow Speakeasy, the last of the summer before we take an August hiatus. And of course, coming up in August, AM GOLD! Above: the greatest flyer ever, thanks to the genius of photographer and designer Ted D'Ottavio. (click for the large view)

We Are the Champions

Last night's show was an absolute triumph; amazing crowd, amazing cast, amazing performances, amazing theater. Completely exhausted. Taking our bows on the stage of an Off-Broadway theater to rousing applause, surrounded by my genius friends and loved ones, most of them not wearing any clothes, was a dizzying, surreal moment that I can't stop thinking about today, the sheer joy of that moment that makes the tremendous work of being an independent producer so, so worth whatever it takes to make that moment happen.

I recently looked back at some of the early posts on Pound Sign, from around this time two years ago, and I had a very different trajectory in mind for my creative life here in New York City. I've been thinking about the things that I would have written about then that now I simply haven't had the time or, frankly, the strong inclination to; this year's Whitney Biennial, the opening of the New Museum. Experiences like those, make no mistake, remain a vital part of my cultural life, and that kind of contemporary art still informs how I think and what I do. But I'm not sure if my focus will ever be there again...

Wow, that got serious for a moment. Any reader who doesn't know me personally certainly stopped reading around the part about nudity. So, onward! This summer the adventure continues: in July for the first time Clams and I are co-producing a show with Jonny Porkpie and Nasty Canasta, also known as Pinchbottom Burlesque! And we're bringin' it to the fabulous Asbury Lanes! Stay tuned for The Shore Thing: A Burlesque Road Trip! And then in August, the two of us return to Coney Island's Burlesque at the Beach series for: Clams Casino and Neil O'Fortune present: AM Gold!

Ya Mo Be There!
